Fundraiser - Attention All Golfers

On Saturday July 9th, Tully Park Golf Club presents a wonderful opportunity for social, handicap and non golfers  alike. The committee is presenting a special fundraiser day in order to raise funds to offset the costs of the December floods. There will be lots of prizes, with an opportunity for everyone to win something. Lunch will be provided with a spit roast on offer. It does not matter if you can or can't play, the day will be lots of fun and will support Goulburns premier golf club. Tee off is at 9.00a.m. with a shotgun start. Cost is $20 per player. Bring a friend, it's sure to be a great day out.

Good Luck Nikita!

Tully Park members have given Nikita Hosking a wonderful farewell as she heads off  to contest the NSW Combined High Schools Golf Championships in Dubbo. The club has run a raffle to offset her expenses in contesting this event and managed to raise over $800 toward her tilt at golfing glory.

Nikita has been in fabulous form lately and her silky swing seems to be working well. She has previously taken out the South Coast Regional CHS Championships and competed in a State level warm up event at Blackheath, in the Blue Mountains. In that event, Nikitas first round was far from perfect as she overthought her golf and could not find her rhythm. In the second round, however, Nikita was far more relaxed and, with nothing to lose, had a fabulous score. This time around, and now familiar with the scale of the occasion, Nikita is feeling confident that she can do her best for club, school and city. The people of Tully Park Golf Club, Mulwaree High School and the City of Goulburn are certain that she will do us proud. Good Luck Nikita!

Stewart easily claimed the monthly medal as well as the excellent trophy donated by Stewarts father, Tracker Tahana. Adam Boxsell won the A Grade comp with 84/70 while Royce Dockett won C Grade with 93/67. Nathan Rumble took out the Progressive Competition with nett 47. Midweek Competition

Russell and Diana Schmitt played the odds to their advantage in this weeks midweek competition, entering 3 times each. Diana recorded the best stableford score for the week with an excellent 26 points for the 12 hole round. This is Dianas best score for some time. Russell was only 2 points behind with 24 points along with Greg and Michael Hosking. It seems that having a supportive family leads to good golf. Or is it the other way around?

Trip Away

Last weekend saw a number of Tully Park golfers venturing out on an away trip to the South Coast. Saturday mornings outing saw them teeing off at Shoalhaven Heads Golf Club joining in a single stableford event in very windy and trying conditions. From the field of 118 starters, 39 points was the overall winning score with Tully Park's Johnny Smith scoring a very solid 37 points ahead of Nathan "Shooter" Rumbles who scored 36 points to be in the placings. Tracker Tahana had a lucky chip out of a bunker to win the drive and pitch to be in the ball count as well.
Sunday morning had the crew playing a 1,2,3 multiplier at Sussex Inlet Golf Club, a new format to the Tully Park crew which was later found out to be very challenging. 54 starters in 18 teams of 3 contested the Presidents Plate, on the very tight tree lined course. The Tully Park team of Mick Simpson, Andy Kadwell and Shooter Rumble combined well to finish 3rd on 111 points. Johhny Smith played a great shot on the 15th hole to win nearest the pin while Tracker Tahana kept up his form to claim the drive and pitch on the 14th, no doubt with a 300m drive and a 7m pitch leaving 4m to the pin. By all accounts it was a great weekend which was enjoyed by all. Those who travelled are looking forward to the next adventure.

Stableford and Barry Pengelly Consistency Competition

Sundays stableford competition was held in cool conditions which turned cooler as the day and wind developed. The day held some intrigue as the 6th round of the Barry Pengelly Consistency competition was also included. The usual array of secondary competitions e\were on offer including nearest to the pin, drive and pitch and the prestigious Cock O the Walk four ball matchplay competition. Marty Weise was the winner of the special ball with a round of 20 points. At the other end of the spectrum, Billy (Rory) McIllmahon continued to dominate "The Baz" with a great round of 40 points. Billy is currently 32 points ahead of his nearest rival (Rory Mc Illnair) in the consistency comp although "The Baz" is only half way through. Billy also won the excellent trophy provided by Eddie Hawkins. Darrell Spence was the closest to Billys score, recording 39 points.Scott Nolan carded an excellent 38 points (including an eagle 3 on the 10th and a 5 putt 6 on the par 3 7th hole), while Charlie McDonald, Ken Wray and marty Hunter made up the ball rundown.

In the Cock O The Walk, Charlie McDonald and Eddie Hawkins employed cunning tactics, allowing Scott Nolan and Nikita Hosking some confidence in an early lead. In his first COW, Eddie was unsure of the appropriate tactics in this form of the game, although by the latter holes his strategy was obvious. Satirical encouragement and the germination of "the seed of doubt" over opposition clutch putts proved to be the way forward to his first COW win. Next week Eddie and Charlie take on Andrew Kadwell and Steve McCrorey in this perpetual competition.

Nearest to the pins went to Darrell Spence on the 8th hole, while Scotty Nolan won the drive and pitch on the 12th hole, driving through the green, and chipping to 3 feet to win a ball. Ken Wray was the raffle winner with lucky number 15.

Tully Park vs Goulburn Soldiers Club

Cool conditions faced the intrepid Tully Park Early Birds as they faced an early start in their annual Four Ball Best Ball challenge for the Snell and Chamberlain Trophy with the Goulburn Soldiers Club Social Golf Club. Despite ominous conditions, the competitors mostly finished their rounds ahead of the inclement weather that presented itself around midday. Those few who suffered the worst of the later weather were well prepared however with some liquid refreshments providing welcome insulation. Early mail proved reliable as the Soldiers Club golfers defeated Tully Park in the overall tally for the first time since 1999.  Tully Park did manage to provide the best team score as Roger Holgate and Charlie McDonald carded 51 points. Andrew Kadwell and Steve McCrorey  and Gary Spence and Eddie Hawkins recorded excellent scores of 45 points while Tracker Tahana and Adanm Boxsell drained 42 pints or so. Unfortunately your scribe did not record the finer details of the competition with regard to nearest to the pins etc, but the competition was enjoyed by all concerned.

Stableford

This weeks stableford competition brought a sense of normality back to Tully Park. Without the pressure of Championships or representative golf, players were able to relax a little around the course, resulting in some excellent scores. Stewart Tahana led the charge with an excellent round of 44 points soundly beating Mick Hosking on 41. Stewart received a generous trophy provided by John Smith. Scott Nolan also scored well, despite a "snowman" 8 on the 4th hole, with 39 points. Royce Dockett, Lindsay Gegg and gary Spence all played well recording 38, 37 and 36 points respectively. Ken Wray was the progressive winner with 57 points while "Bad" Barry Pengelly, our club patron, won the weekly raffle. Tracker Tahana was nearest to the pin on the 5th hole while Billy McMahon  managed to "fade" his second shot to win the nearest to the pin on the 13th. Marty Weisse won the special ball, despite playing some excellent golf.

In the Cock O' The Walk comp, Nikita Hosking and Scott Nolan took the strut out of Marty Hunter and Charlie McDonald, winning 2 up. The Next Challengers are Steve McCrorey and Andrew Kadwell.
