Pennants Results
Our illustrious Pennants team failed to fire last Sunday but still managed to salvage some pride in their final match against pool leaders Braidwood. With a handfull of 20 markers, and with a genetic tendency to be straight off the tee, Braidwood found the Tully Park track to their liking, recording a 4.5 to 1.5 win. This brings a most enjoyable pennants season to a close with Tully finishing just out of contention for a semi final spot.
Monthly Medal - Patrons Trophy
Club Captain Brian Mills played a survivors game to win the Patrons Trophy and the Monthly Medal presented by his good mate, life member and patron of Tully Park Early Birds, Barry Pengelly. Millsy holed out for 3 pars in an excellent round shooting 1 nett under par. Conditions were difficult with tough putting conditions, a hangover from Decembers floods. Josh Whittaker won the nearest to the pin on the 7th hole and was the A Grade winner with nett 73, while Bill McMahon won B Grade with 70 nett. Millsy was, of course the C Grade winner.Roy McNair shared the glory with an early win in the progressive comp (nett 58). Roy may figure again in the progressive comp some time after October. Disco Jansen was in funky town on the 11th with the nearest birdie putt. Bill McMahon placed his tee shot on the 5th to 92cn from the pin to win a jackpot of balls donated by himself. Be nice Billy!
Disco and "Nana Nana Nana Na" Simpson again defended their Cock O' the Walk supremacy and seem to have all the moves. Other good scores were posted by E Sivell (nett 67), T. Clewett (68) and E, Hawkins (69).
Next week the committee presents the first of our Fousomes competitions, with Canadian Foursomes the preferred format. A cheap and nasty trophy will be provided by the McDonald family.

Midweek
Lachlan Bill was 11 over par for the Goulburn Soldiers Club Midweek competition as he put together a winning 29 points. The course is playing much longer lately with narrower fairways and penal rough, thanks to the recent rain and good conditions. Mick Simpson and Marty Hunter were close behind with 27 and 26 points. A couple of our vets, Kevin Peterson and Lester Adams also won a ball for their excellent golfing talents. A reminder to midweek golfers that unsigned or improperly filled cards cannot be accepted and will result in disqualification. Check YOUR card before submitting it.

Nikita Hosking - South Coast CHS Schoolgirl Champion!
Congratulations to Nikita Hosking who is now the South Coast Combined High Schools Schoolgirl Golf Champion. Played at Kiama Golf Club, Tully Park was represented in the South Coast CHS Championships by Nikita, her brother Michael Hosking and Hope Cohen. Michael was the winner of the stableford championship but was pipped on the stroke comp by some very sharp schoolboy golfers. Hope was also successful, winning a Jack Newton prize in the U15 girls division. Nikita and Hope will soon be representing South Coast CHS at State level at Blackheath Golf Club in the Blue Mountains. Good luck girls!
Pennants Results
Charlie McDonald provided the major point of discussion for the Tully Park pennants tean in their match against Fairbairn Golf Club, played at Fairbairn. Evenly matched in handicap, Tully were hoping for a win or draw to stay in touch with Braidwood in the race for a semi final berth. Adam Boxsell won his match on the 18th green, while Tracker Tahana accepted a conceded win on the 13th. Steve McCrorey may have run out of energy having celebrated his grandmothers 80th birthday until well before bedtime.
Unfortunately Tully went down, 3.5 matches to 2.5. This means that Braidwood are now 3 points clear of Tully Park with only one match remaining and 2 points up for grabs. Tullys next stoush, against Braidwood at Tully, is now a dead rubber. In case you are still reading, Charlie smashed this drive on the first tee 500cm but still within the confines of the ladies tee. Charlies second shot was technically not an air swing as he did hit the ground, although the ball did not move. The divot was not quite folded over the ball, but close enough to have the gallery in stitches and the for the memory to be etched in Charlies mind for ever. Such is golf.

How do they do that?
It always amazes your scribe as to how these young, talented, "wet behind the ears" juniors hit that little *&%? ball so purely, so straight and so, so far away. Young Josh Whittaker (Hcap 13), the current Tully Park golden child was staring down a record round, square with par after 15 holes. Josh was on fire, having claimed the NTP on the 9th (209m) hole as well as the drive and Pitch on the 12th hole. Unfortunately 16, 17 and 18 were unkind leaving him 6 over par, but still with 43 points - enough to win the Sunday trophy, donated by Mark Bush.
Mark Bush was the progressive winner with 48 points winning the $20 voucher. The Progressive Comp spreads the chances of a player winning a prize by each Sunday player gaining a progressive handicap shot until they win. Then back to their current handicap they go.
Brian Mills won the raffle, while Nana Simpson and Disco Jansen defeated Greg and Michael Hosking in the Cock O The Walk. Michael and Darren received their COW pins, having won 3 consecutive matches. Dancin!
Next weeks comp is a stroke event in conjunction with the monthly medal. Barry Pengelly, Tullys Patron, has donated an outstanding trophy for the event.

Pennants Results
Tully Parks Pennants team recorded an excellent win against Belconnen Golf Club on Sunday winning 4 matches to 2. Tracker Tahana, Charlie McDonald and Josh Whittaker made the most of their home advantage while Marty Hunter and John Smith salvaged squared results for their matches. Adam Boxsell was not able to wish up a last hole lip out and went down on the last hole in an epic match.
Meanwhile Fairbairn and Braidwood Golf Clubs managed a three all tie in their match at Fairbairn. With two rounds remaining Braidwood have 7 points with 15.5 wins while Tully has 6 points with 15.5 wins. Apart from a couple of unlikely results next week, Tully must beat Braidwood when they visit in 2 weeks time in order to make the finals. The team is brim full of ability and form and the club has every confidence that our team will bring home a great result. Tully Tully Tully! Oi Oi Oi!

Tahana Takes Tully Park Par Trophy
Stewart Tahana was convincing in his +4 versus par round despite recording a negative result for the back 9 holes. Stewart (Hcap 19) was +5 for the outward 9 holes with 4 over par. Four minuses (and 3 plusses) for the back nine left enough margin for a 1 hole victory over Nathan "Rumbo" Rumble on +3. Stewart won a generous trophy donated by Roy McNair. A host of "also rans" on +2 included Nikita and Michael Hosking, "Wee" Billy McMahon, Michael "Dancin" Simpson and Darren "Disco" Jansen. "Disco" and "Dancin" also reclaimed the Cock'O'The Walk, but have to restart their campaign for a COW pin from scratch.
Next weeks competition is a Stableford event held in conjunction with Round 3 of the Barry Pengelly Consistency Competition.

Midweek
Lester Adams and Grant Mooney fought out the battle for midweek honors with Lester triumphant in a countback. Unfortunately for Grant, Lester finished strongly to claim the Goulburn Soldiers Club voucher. Eddy Hawkins and Ted Bayliss were 2 and 3 points off the lead with 27 and 26 points, respectively.

Golf Course Architecture
For those who haven't seen or heard about them yet, the first batch of improvements include;
- installation of a new rough area in front of the 1st green- populated with random clumping grasses. The area will be in play, not a hazard. You may need a rule book if you get lost in here. It should shorten the big hitters off the 13th and sharpen up most second shots in to the green.
- installation of a new bunker in the rough area between the 3rd and 4th fairways. This U shaped bunker is immediately above the lowest bank. It will trap longer drives that stray right off each tee. If you are too faded you will have to lob out. A straighter bunker landing at least gives you a chance (sure) of making the green in regulation.
- installation of a mound and a bunker near the 4th green. This hole has never been easy, but it sure got harder. To hit the green from the right or 3rd fairway, you will have to lob the bunker without running off the left and back. Add trees from the third - no up and down there, as well as the new mound front and left of the green. Its tight. You must get your ball in the air to get the green, unless that is , if you always go up the middle. Yawn.
- installation of "The Church Pews" on the left hand side of the third fairway, just beyond the first rise. Gofers will need a blessed hand to make the green from here.

Tully Park belts Belconnen - Pennants News
The Tully Park Pennants team had a marvellous day out taking on Belconnen Golf Club at Belconnen. Scott Nolan, John Smith, Steve McCrorey and Charlie McDonald all recorded wins while Adam Boxsell and Marty Hunter took their matches to the 18th hole to square their matches. Final result: Tully Park 5, Belconnen 1. The return match against Belconnen occurs next week at Tully Park.
Our boys are well placed in their division, two points and one individual win behind last years champions, Braidwood. The standings after 3 of 6 rounds are:
Braidwood - 6 points, 12.5 wins, Tully Park - 4 points, 11.5 wins, Belconnen - 2 points, 7 wins, Fairbairn - 2 points, 5 wins.
Basically Tully needs to win 2 from 3 and Braidwood need to lose a match.
The Tully Park Junior Pennants team managed a 3 all tie with Royal Canberra in their last round match at Tully Park. Unfortunately this brings the Junior Pennants campaign to a close with the finals starting next week. Our juniors have represented Tully Park very well this year and they should be proud of the way that they have acquitted themselves. Congratulations and thanks are also due to Greg and Kylie Hosking and Russell and Di Schmitt on the way that they have developed and managed these young champions.

Kadwell cruises to comfortable comp conquest
Andrew Kadwell completed his round strongly to finish over the top of Don Grimston, Eddie Sivell and Darren "Disco" Jansen in Sundays stableford competition. Andrew was 2 points off the lead at the halfway point, but his 20 points for the back 9 holes proved too much for his fellow competitors to match. Andrew was the recipient of a generous trophy donated by Greg and Kylie Hosking. Tim James won the weekly raffle, while "Disco" Jansen and Stewart Tahana won the nearest to the pin prizes on the 5th and 7th holes.
"Disco" and Michael "Nana nana nana na" Simpson defeated Tim "The Package Deal King" James and Peter Wheeldon in the Cock O' The Walk, and take on Roy McNair and partner next week.
Next week the Early Birds Committee presents a Par event for the enjoyment of its members, with a trophy donated by Roy McNair.
Teams are needed to compete in the Keno Mixed 4BBB event. The top three teams go on to the district final and potentially the state final.
