Sunday Par Event

Par events are always viewed with scepticism by golfers. Score a hole in 1 or an eagle 2 under par; plus 1. Miss a fairway, find a bunker or misread a put; that would be minus 1. For your scribe, minuses have become the norm, with even a square hole a rarity. It is possible that a 40 point round could be defeated by a 36 point round in a par event. Such is golf, thats why we love it. Steve McCrorey and Eddie Sivell were not thinking like that. They were going hole for hole, accumulating pluses and dodging the dreaded minuses. Both finished on +4 having ahead of Stewart Tahana (+3), Roger Holgate (+2), Nathan Rumble (+2) and Nikita Hosking (+1). The countback system decided the winner with Steve McCrorey declared as winner and claimed a generous trophy donated by Ken Wray. Tracker Tahana, at the other end of the scale recorded -7 and received the special ball for his lack of talent.

Nikita Hosking won the progressive comp with +17 while Nathan Rumble and Steve McCrorey won the nearest to the pins on the 14th and 12th holes. Steve also capped off a great comp by partnering with AndrewKadwell to win the Cock O The Walk, defeating Greg and Mick Hosking 2 up with one to play. Don Grimston was the weekly raffle winner and won a box of Hot Dots. Scott Nolan managed an eagle 3 on the last hole of his round, furthering his reputation as a complete athlete.

Next Sunday the committee presents a Overs v Unders Single Stableford event in which the Over Somethings Take on the Young Guns. The qualification to play as an Over is yet to be determined, but Captain Mills assures us that life experience will count highly. The Barry Pengelly Consistency round for September will be held in conjunction with this event.

All local golfers are reminded that Goulburns most prestigious title, the Lilac Time Open will be contested over 18 holes in mens, ladies and junior divisions on October 2nd. Entry forms are available on the web at www.tullyparkgolf.com or ring the club on 02 4822 2828. Defending champion, Scott Nolan, has reportedly been waking up at night screaming "I am the greatest!". This has yet to be confirmed with Scotts better half. The question remains, can anyone beat Scott? Is he really the complete athlete as reported during the soccer season? One round of golf will tell it all, for this year at least.
