The Tully Park Early Birds Golf Club Minor Championships were held last weekend over 36 holes. Conditions were excellent on both days as a large field set out to fight for a place on the champions board.
Saturdays round did not produce many good scores with only two players bettering their handicap relative to par. In A Grade, Scott Nolan (70 nett) and Charlie McDonald (69) were well placed, while Nathan Rumble seemed to have one hand on the B Grade with 65 nett. Andrew Kadwell and Eddie Sivell (68) nett were leading C Grade and Royce Dockett was in the drivers seat in D Grade with nett 69.
Sundays round was full of promise for some and hope for others. Ultimately, many promises were broken and hopes dashed, while the victors celebrated their awesome achievements. In the end only two of the first round leaders managed to hold on to their Championship leads, while late chargers stole the day in most grades. John Smith shot 3 over par for a nett 59 to win the Sunday round and the Monthly Medal. Marty Hunter was also in contention with a competetive 79 (nett 65). Greg Hosking also played well recording 78 (61 nett) with Billy McMahon carding 80 (62 nett). Darrell Spence, Eddie Sivell and Royce Dockett also did their chances of glory no harm as they recorded excellent second rounds. Nearest to the pin prizes went to Disco Jansen on the 7th and Eddie Sivell on the 11th.
In the wash up the Tully Park Minor Champions were:
A Grade: John Smith (151 gross), Ken Wray (139 nett). B Grade: Greg Hosking (167 gross), Bill McMahon (133 nett). C Grade: Eddie Sivell (181 gross), Darrel Spence (135 nett). Royce Dockett (193 gross), Alan Bill (151 nett). Ladies: Nikita Hosking (185 gross and 147 nett).
